Joint Convention “Moves Libertarianism Forward” in Midwest
A noteworthy speech given by New Mexico's former governor, Gary Johnson, a Libertarian Party Presidential candidate, highlighted the Joint Wisconsin-Minnesota State Libertarian Party Convention on April 14th.
Titled “Moving Libertarianism Forward,” the combined-party convention also featured libertarian icons Sharon Harris and Walter Block speaking to an assembly of over 70 delegates and other guests.
With separate meetings of state delegates in the morning, the all-day Saturday event at the Ramada Convention Center in Eau Claire, WI, included speakers reporting their efforts on libertarian issues, including: equal property protection under gay marriages, voluntary health care, the need for legalized medical marijuana, and information on sound, gold-backed currency toward a proper monetary policy. The sound money concept, presented by long-time liberty activist Ken van Doren, has been popularized among libertarian Republican and independent voters via Republican presidential candidate Dr. (Rep.) Ron Paul. (R-TX).
“We are a party that combines socially open-minded tolerance toward differences of opinion with a philosophy of responsible fiscal and monetary policy by all levels of government,” said LP Wisconsin political director, Tim Krenz, of Osceola. “If our party members and liberty supporters practice libertarian ideals in their their daily lives, and vote their conscience for the Libertarian Party's platform and candidates, then optimism will win,” Krenz continued later. “WE the People provide the best solutions to better education, solvent public treasuries, peace-first foreign policy, and affordable health-care. A world with more liberty, tolerance, prosperity, and peace can become more of a reality if it prevails here at home first.”
