Dems will not “throw incumbents from the train”
[Wisconsin Dells] Democratic Party Chair Mike Tate and Republican Party Chair Reince Preibus attended a luncheon sponsored by Wispolitics.com to provide “a look ahead to this year's elections.”
When Tate was asked if the Wisconsin Democratic Party would take any actions toward legislators who ignored a party position taken by convention delegates in favor of “medical marijuana” since the Democrat majorities in both chambers failed to bring those bills up for a vote.
“We will not throw anyone from the train for not getting this issue up for a vote,” said Tate, who indicated that legislators got very busy and the issue will likely be reconsidered in the next session.
Chairman Preibus indicated that the Republican Party was not concerned about Wisconsin citizens “who want to smoke marijuana” for health reasons.
Jim Maas, Vice Chair of the Libertarian Party of Wisconsin, wondered, “What are the priorities of the two old parties when they can find time to ban school mascots and scold Representative Jeff Wood but not find time to pass a health care bill which would not have cost taxpayers a dime?”
Compassionate use of marijuana by patients under a doctor’s care is supported by grassroots Democrats as well as the Wisconsin Greens and Libertarian Party of Wisconsin. Similar legislation was passed in 2010 by Michigan and New Jersey. ###
