Wisconsin Legislature can show compassion  E-mail

logo[ROTHSCHILD] Affordable health care remains a problem in Wisconsin. Prescription drug overdosing is a problem. Military veterans suffer from PTSD and emotional or physical pain from their service.

The good news is that legislation has been reintroduced in Madison to allow Wisconsin physicians to prescribe medical marijuana to sick people, as they would be able to do in 16 other states and the District of Columbia.

The bad news, say Libertarians, is that our Wisconsin Legislature and both major political parties have a history of succumbing to pressure from pharmaceutical lobbies over popular support from their own constituents. “Big Pharma would be happy to support medical marijuana, if they could get control over sales,” says Jim Maas, former LPWI Chair. “Instead, they attempt to emulate the active ingredient and sell that to patients.”

Wisconsinites are ahead of the politicians, with majorities in all demographic groups and political parties favoring allowing medicinal marijuana prescriptions. Between 70 to 80 percent support medical marijuana, overall.

“It is time to move on,” says Maas. "It's time to demonstrate some compassion."

The Libertarian Party of Wisconsin believes that only actions that infringe on the rights of others can properly be termed "crimes", and favors the repeal of state, and local laws restricting our fundamental freedom to govern our own lives.
