The State of Wisconsin holds elections for local non-partisan offices in the Spring, city councils, village and town boards, some county elected offices, and school boards.
Why should LPWI members and supporters run for local office?
To fill most of the Libertarian Party’s keys to success, we need more members and more of those members elected to local offices. Furthermore, local campaigns have several advantages for Party members and supporters.
- They generally do not require a lot of money to run, or only a proportionately smaller amount for the office sought.
- They generally can avoid using partisan labels; and even among personalities,
- The races can stick to issues and policies as much as possible.
- They usually only require the candidate and not staff for the more rural-area positions.
- The time to do the job of serving does not amount to another full-time job. And finally and most importantly
- These positions make absolute and real, practical differences in people's lives and in the way things are approached, solved, and done.

Statewide and Legislative Partisan Offices
Wisconsin also holds partisan elections for statewide constitutional offices and for the State Legislature in the Fall General Election cycle. These include Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, State Treasurer, State Senate, and State Assembly seats.
Why should LPWI members and supporters run for partisan state office?
Building a strong Libertarian presence at the state level is essential to defending individual liberty and limiting government overreach. Running for these offices helps us:
-
Bring Libertarian ideas and solutions to statewide media and debates.
-
Hold major-party candidates accountable on issues of personal freedom, civil liberties, and fiscal responsibility.
-
Educate voters and grow the party’s visibility and membership.
-
Challenge bad laws and policies that undermine local control and individual rights.
-
Build a bench of experienced candidates and campaigners for future races.
-
Provide voters with a real alternative that refuses to compromise on principle.
