Austin Bond on the Capital Steps

You think I’m a spoiler? You can’t spoil something that is already rotten” – Chase Oliver

Our system of government is indeed rotten. It was never intended to by that way. It was only set up to keep power out of the hands of despots and tyrants. Our Founding Fathers could not conceive every danger their experiment would face. So here we are today with a duopoly of political parties behaving as a despot or tyrant. We have the illusion of choice because the parties in control give us their options. We are in a perpetual state of war and war perpetuates the health of the state. If a foreign war is not sufficient to keep the voters in line, domestic wars are also available; the war on drugs, the war on crime, those huddled masses yearning to be free on our borders. The Democrats and Republicans working together create the problems that they claim only they can solve. When they pretend to reform the system they only do so to increase their advantage in maintaining control.

The duopoly parties also control the press. In Wisconsin this November there will be 8 candidates on the ballot for president. Even educated Libertarians have difficulty naming more than 4 – such is the control our government via its two party duopoly have over the supposed free press. Nothing about the press is free. You must pay to play. Why are our elections so expensive? Why are they seemingly never ending? Because the duopoly wants it that way. They are in control; they make the rules. Free and open debates? Maybe in Mexico, not here.

Chase is right. The system is rotten. We are not spoilers. As Libertarians it is our duty to put down the monster of duopoly rule. To bring back true freedom of the press. To give voters real choices. Every act of resistance is an act of patriotism. Even if to the uninitiated it appears we are spoilers.

Phil Anderson for U.S. Senate

Everyday it seems I'm in a new town, village, or city spreading the good news; there is a alternative choice and it involves freedom.

Last week, I was in the studio recording my radio message. Have you heard it yet? I hope you do.

Visit my web page for details and please consider attending an event, or making a donation.

Thanks, Phil

Candidate Support Committee

Following closely on the November elections are those of the municipal and county office elections. If you are interested in running as a Libertarian for these non-partisan offices, now is the time to start doing your research and getting ready. Look into what offices have terms that end next year, find out what the local issues are, attend meetings of boards and commissions that the current officeholders are members of, identify Libertarian answers to constituent questions, create a list of issues you want to base your campaign on and get more information on what is required to get on the ballot for the office.

Check out the information on this page https://www.lpwi.org/run_for_office. If you decide to run for office as a Libertarian, let us know by emailing your name, contact information, if you are a member of the Libertarian Party of Wisconsin and the office you want to run for to [email protected].

Progress Report from the Constitution & Bylaws Committee

This CBL committee, prior to the recent events revolving around changes in leadership and the subsequent involvement of the LNC and their Judicial Affairs Committee had been focused on making appropriate changes within the LPWI’s governing documents. These involved combining our constitution and bylaws into one document only – our bylaws. This involved moving elements of the constitution directly into the bylaws. Four elements that occurred in both constitution and bylaws then needed to be reconciled and combined.

The rather scathing majority opinion from the JA committee regarding glaring inconsistencies in our governing documents have made it clear that our approach to changing/merging the two documents may not be enough. Their opinion specifically noted thirty-six specific references to our current documents that were so vague as to not being able to support our ExComm’s assertions in our appeal. I have reviewed each of these citations and believe our best option is a total re-write of the bylaws. I have proposed this to the CBL committee and we are discussing the matter off-line to decide upon a best practical approach.

This work is incredibly important to our being able to function as an organization and a party. We need to have governing documents that do not take up a lot of time in convention. They need to be concise, readable, and easily referenced by any member. This has been an issue with LPWI for many years, yet we are no better off now than when we started. Times have changed, but our fifty year old governing documents have not and no longer serve this party OR its members. On the contrary, our current bylaws have hindered this party’s growth due to the inordinate amount of time delegates have to spend fixing both real and perceived problems with “band-aid” solutions that don’t work. The CBL is working to put together an easy package that can be adopted so that the LPWI can move forward in building a party that helps get Libertarians running for office and getting Libertarian candidates elected.

It is my hope that the members will get behind the changes that we, and you, bring forward at our state convention in 2025. The time for dithering is over. We need action to move ahead.

Dump Day October 22, 2024

The WIre hopes that all its readers get all the campaign materials they want. As Libertarians you probably had to pay for them yourself and your yard sign was probably stolen, at least once. We obviously have the best or most desired signs out there. Collectible too. But you can’t count on people stealing all your campaign bling. Thieves or campaign memorabilia collectors are just so unreliable.

Which brings us to Dump Day. Dump Day is two weeks before the election of November 5, which is October 22. Whatever campaign ephemera you’ve got needs to be out by Dump Day if it is going to do our party any good. People need to see it if it is going to have any effect. Scope out those bulletin boards, visit those college kids, join in with those anti-war protesters on the street corner. That extra stuff you’ve got has got to go by Dump Day.

If you still don’t have what you need, check this out. To get the buttons, posters, and bumper stickers you want your best bet it to contact the Chase Oliver for President Shop https://shop.votechaseoliver.com/ Yeah, get the beer mug and pajama pants. There is an option for bulk sales. Talk to your friends. Other sources might be your district representative or your local affiliate.

Remember it is not what you’ve got but what you do with it. Make it count.

Short Notes

"There are so many things that I would want to change. So I don't feel pressured to endorse someone. There's problems on both sides." - Chappell Roan

To clarify her remarks Ms Roan later went on to say that she would not be voting for Mr. Trump. It is unfortunate that she does not know there are more than two sides.
