September Town Hall Recap

The Libertarian Party of Wisconsin’s September Town Hall featured updates from party leadership and progress over the last calendar quarter, including affiliate growth, candidate recruitment, outreach efforts, and press coverage. Vice Chair Aaron Kammer shared news from recent Central Badgerland events, teaching others food preparation such as waterbath canning, pressure canning, brewing, and more.

Tim Krenz, newly elected Chair of the Affiliate Support Committee, provided an update on his work to strengthen local chapters and support new affiliates across Wisconsin.

CD4 Representative Kristen Walker discussed how the Milwaukee affiliate is actively working to set up upcoming events, showing encouraging momentum for local organizing in one of the state’s largest metro areas. At-Large Representative Austin Bond also shared remarks about his role and ongoing involvement in building the newly formed Capitol Area Libertarian affiliate.

We concluded by sharing the libertarian pledge and calling on anyone willing to “be the change” to consider becoming a member. The next Town Hall is scheduled for December.

Liberty Summit Recap

On October 3–4, the Liberty Summit, also promoted as Liberty Live, brought activists, thinkers, and community leaders together in Rothschild, Wisconsin for two days of networking, education, and strategy. Organized by Hot Government and the Wisconsin Conservative Digest, the event combined a welcome social gala with a full day of workshops, speakers, and interactive sessions.

Keynote speaker Garrett Ziegler, a former Trump administration insider, discussed the “Biden Laptop Report” and its Wisconsin connections. Featured speaker Dr. Douglas Frank presented research on Wisconsin’s voter rolls and the role of algorithms in elections, urging participants to equip themselves with knowledge and action. Additional sessions included Bruce C. Carter, who shared insights on political networking and influence, and AJ Olsen, who examined media manipulation and how to recognize deceptive tactics.

The summit emphasized unity, grassroots involvement, and the need for vigilance in both political engagement and media literacy. With a strong turnout and engaged discussion, the event showcased a growing movement in Wisconsin committed to liberty, accountability, and civic action.

It’s an exciting time to be a Libertarian in Wisconsin. With elections just 13 months away and the national convention in seven, we have every reason to stay engaged and optimistic. The work we’re doing now, growing affiliates, recruiting candidates, and building community, is laying the foundation for lasting change.

Together, we’re proving that liberty in Wisconsin is alive, active, and ready to lead.

Local Victory

At the Winnebago County Board meeting on September 16 several members of the Fox Valley Libertarian Party showed up to speak and be seen. They expressed their disapproval of a 0.5% sales tax last night. I'm very happy to say our efforts and the efforts of others were successful in helping stop this sales tax from moving forward, saving everyone in Winnebago county upwards of $100+ a year, with the poorest being hit the hardest by this tax.

With how high profile federal politics has become, we sometimes forget that we can have the biggest impact at the local level. Showing up at meetings and emailing your local politicians can have a major impact. Running for offices that sometimes only have 3500 constituents makes an even bigger impact. – Jordan Andrew

Why Libertarians Matter

[When a crisis occurs] “The actions that are taken depend on the ideas that are lying around.” – Milton Friedman.

Governments, like crazy people, keep doing the same things over and over expecting a better result. Tax, spend, regulate, outlaw. When things don’t work as planned; tax more, spend more, there ought to be a law … NO!

Libertarians see the world the same as everybody else, however we see the solutions differently. When discussing our nation’s problems you can hear them say, “Our government has tried that before, that is not going to work.” What comes next is the lament, “Why didn’t they try something different instead?”

Libertarian solutions have worked in the past. They worked in New Zealand when government spending was so great it nearly shut the island down. They worked in Portugal when there was no government money to support the Drug War. They are working in Argentina where government policies so devalued the Argentine Peso that people quit using it.

Are Libertarian ideas the tools our nation needs? You know they are. Yet they are not going to get used unless politicians know those tools are there. They won’t get used unless voters demand politicians use them. Let everyone know those same old ideas just aren’t cutting it. It is time to try ours.

Maybe the politicians aren’t brave enough to trust people with their own choices? Maybe they have never heard of another way? This is why Libertarians matter. We run candidates to get ideas that work heard.

Thoughts on Popular Culture

Most libertarians like to proclaim loudly that “Taxation is Theft.” Most “normal people,” possibly because they have been educated in our tax funded government run school system, will tell you that taxes are the price we pay for living in a civilized society. Governments have expenses. To pay for these they will take your earnings, your time, your talents, sometimes your life. Sometimes they have other motivations in mind.

The entertainment franchise “Star Trek” often has little to do with reality; men wearing pajamas, without pockets, without money, affecting a military takeover of the galaxy. Who doesn’t watch it? In one of the spin off series it is found that a Vulcan is running a crime syndicate. His response is that “there can be no Utopia without crime.” Interesting thought. Even in a near perfect society there must be a way to redistribute the wealth.

Historically in most societies a few people owned most of the wealth and most of the people had nearly nothing. In modern America it can be argued that this is still the case. Our society is so affluent that even the poor live well. This is the author’s opinion – we can talk about it. Wealth usually goes from the poorest to the richest. Americans hope and believe that if they work hard one day they will be rich, because each on of us believes that we can work harder and/or are much more talented than our brothers. Michael Badnarik, past LP candidate for president explains this better in his book, “Good to be King.”

Hayak believed begrudgingly in state support for the poor. Mises wasn’t so kind in spending other people’s money although he believed individuals would step forward to see the poor were taken care of. My personal religious beliefs are that there will always be poor people. At the same time my church and I spend much of our time, talents, and resources supporting the poor. In case you are wondering this is known as Liberation Theology.

Winston Churchill has a wonderful quote comparing capitalism and socialism. "The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries." In a socialist system, most of the time, everyone is poor. There are exceptions, our own socialist nation is one of of them. Socialist security, public schools, our health care system is almost there, SNAP, WIC, - we can talk about this too.

Economists believe that wealth is created out of an individual’s time, talent, and labor. People disagree whether governments should enforce fairness or equality or to what measure of both.

My personal faith commands that I believe that two kings ruled so justly and so well that their subjects paid their taxes willingly - unbelievable. Well, it was only two kings. Maybe it could have happened.

Even in a Utopia there are thieves.

Short Bits

Made in America

The most important—and controversial—document in our country’s history is the U.S. Constitution. Newly minted democracies began to prevail across the globe after 1787, and they did so thanks largely to the military, legal, political, cultural, social, and economic success of America’s Constitution. “The modern democratic world, “was ‘Made in America.’” The Constitution is the key to our future, too. - Akhil Reed Amar

Discomfort is the price you pay for a fulfilling life.

Trump’s in the Epstein Files. The jobs report shows that the economy has ground to a halt. He’s losing major cases because his immigration policies and tariffs and numerous executive orders are unconstitutional. Don’t look. He wants you to know there’s no use in resisting. As he fools fewer people, he will resort to the gun. We are not free. – Alicia Dearn - candidate for vice president with the Libertarian Party in 2016
